Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United [Match Day Report | Video Highlights]

It was obviously a disappointing day at Merseyside for David Moyes and his lads who were unable to respond to Daniel Sturridge's early headed opener. The Reds are now five points behind the arch-rivals from Anfield in the table as Brendan Rodgers' outfit have won all three league games 1-0.
Daniel Sturridge redirected Daniel Agger's header from a Steven Gerrard corner in the fourth minute to send the home support wild. In an open start to the game, both sides could have embellished the scoreline. Robin van Persie hooked an overhead kick just over Simon Mignolet's goal, and the Liverpool goalkeeper was later relieved to see both van Persie and Danny Welbeck miss Ashley Young's low corner.
The hosts passed up two promising openings from dead ball situations, with David De Gea smartly clutching Gerrard's curling effort, before the game descended into a fractious affair, which yielded bookings for Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick, van Persie and Liverpool's Iago Aspas.
David Moyes' side dominated proceedings in the second period, but without forging enough clear-cut openings. Antonio Valencia, Nani and Chicharito were gradually introduced from the bench, and the latter pair combined to release van Persie in the 87th minute for United's clearest chance. However, the Dutchman could only fire wide of Mignolet's near post.

Despite grasping almost total control of the game and reducing the hosts to a defensive mass, the champions couldn't muster the penetration to reap rewards and suffered a first defeat of the season.

Bayern München vs. Chelsea [Video Highlights]

Familiar foes can make for fascinating football, as we found out Friday night.

After a thrilling 2-2 draw over 120 minutes, Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea 5-4 in a penalty shootout to win the UEFA Super Cup final at Prague's Eden Arena. In victory, the German giants added to their historic trophy haul from last season and earned a measure of redemption for the 2012 Champions League final, which they lost to Chelsea in another penalty shootout.

Bayern, Champions League winners last spring, converted all five penalties in Friday's shootout via David Alaba, Toni Kroos, Philipp Lahm, Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer then saved Chelsea's final kick, which was taken by Romelu Lukaku. Before that, David Luiz, Oscar, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole had converted for Chelsea.

It was a bitter ending for Chelsea, who led 2-1 until the final passage of play in extra time. Eden Hazard gave 10-man Chelsea the lead with a bouncing shot that tricked Neuer in the 93rd minute. With the final seconds ticking off, Javi Martinez collected a free kick in Chelsea's box, maintained his composure and fired his shot past Petr Cech for a last-gasp equalizer.

The late drama mirrored the 2012 Champions League final, which was 1-1 before the penalty shootout and saw Chelsea equalize in the closing moments. This time, though, Cech's heroics in goal were not enough for the London club.

But it wasn't for lack of effort on Cech's part.

Bayern peppered Chelsea's goal with shots throughout extra time, but Cech repeatedly made saves. The 31-year-old Czech stopper kept out close-range headers by Mario Mandzukic and Martinez in the 108th and 109th minutes, respectively, and tipped away Ribery's goal-bound free kick in the 118th minute.

Ribery, who was voted UEFA Best Player in Europe on Thursday, scored Bayern's first equalizer in the second minute of the first half. The Frenchman dribbled at the Chelsea defense on the left before uncorking a shot from long range to beat Cech.

Chelsea opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Hazard sliced through the Bayern defense before passing to Andre Schurrle on the right. Schurrle crossed for Fernando Torres, who finished the flowing move with a powerful volley past Neuer.

Bayern dominated possession, with 64 percent compared to Chelsea's 36 percent, but struggled to break down the Blues' defense. First-year manager Pep Guardiola opted for a 4-1-4-1 formation, but with holding midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger injured, Bayern's attacks often appeared disjointed.

Some of that probably had to do with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who was familiar with Guardiola from several matchups between the two in Spain's La Liga. Mourinho's approach seemed to suffer a blow late in the second half when Ramires drew a red card for his second bookable offense, a foul on Mario Gotze. But despite playing a man down throughout extra time, the Blues took the lead following the dismissal and came within seconds of winning.

But Martinez's late equalizer and Bayern's precision from the penalty spot meant another trophy for the Bavarian giants. Last season under Jupp Heynckes, Bayern won the Bundesliga and German Cup in addition to the Champions League.

Chelsea reached the Super Cup by winning last season's Europa League under interim manager Rafa Benitez.

Brazil 3 - 0 Spain [Video Highlights]

The Selecao, fuelled by a deafening atmosphere inside the Maracana, brought la Roja to their knees with an outstanding display to win the tournament for a fourth time. Two goals from Fred and a stunning Neymar finish saw Brazil claim their third straight Confederations Cup title in emphatic fashion, as they brushed Spain aside 3-0 in the finalon Sunday.

Brazil 2-0 Spain - Neymar 44' by simaotvgolo12

The tournament hosts were in supreme form inside a raucous Maracana, ripping the reigning world and European champions to shreds to end their 29-match unbeaten run, and claim the trophy for the fourth time, alongside their triumphs of 2009, 2005 and 1997.
Fred needed only 90 seconds to open the scoring, before a thumping second from Neymar moments before the break rounded off an excellent first half for Brazil.
The onslaught continued two minutes after the restart when Fred put another past a shell-shocked Spain, who showed their ineptitude at both ends when Sergio Ramos lashed a penalty wide.
Gerard Pique's 68th minute red card ended any fleeting hopes of a comeback from la Roja, as Brazil's win sparked wild celebrations in the stands and saw Spain lose by three goals in a competitive game for the first time since 1985.
The fans had the Maracana rocking long before kick-off, and barely two minutes in, the home side nearly blew the roof off the famous stadium when they took the lead.
Oscar delivered a ball into the box which Fred, Iker Casillas, Alvaro Arbeloa and Pique all challenged. A goalmouth scramble ensued and, despite laying on the turf, the Fluminense man reacted quickest to poke home.
Fred very nearly set Oscar up for the second within minutes when he flicked across the box from Neymar’s cross, but Chelsea’s young playmaker drilled agonisingly wide.
Paulinho then made Casillas work hard to keep the deficit at one with a cheeky lob after robbing Andres Iniesta, with the Spain keeper backpedalling to get a hand to the attempt.
Vicente Del Bosque’s side were simply struggling to cope with the tenacity and energy in Brazil’s play, which was matched every step of the way by the fervour raining down from the stands.
And Arbeloa nearly committed a fatal mistake when he flattened Neymar on the halfway line, but with the fans baying for blood, only a yellow card was issued to the defender.
Spain finally showed signs of life when Iniesta’s rasping drive forced Julio Cesar to push around the post, but it was an aberration amid Brazil’s dominance, and Casillas had to stand tall again to stop Fred from point blank range.
However, it was then the hosts' turn to live on the edge when an outrageous goal-line clearance from David Luiz denied Pedro a sure-fire goal after Mata’s pass put him one-on-one with Cesar.
But with half-time approaching, Brazil would get their deserved second. Oscar drew the attention of the defence on the edge of the box and deftly slipped in Neymar, who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.
And two minutes after the interval, the hosts struck again. Hulk’s fantastic diagonal ball was cleverly dummied by Neymar, leaving Fred to finish coolly into the bottom corner.
Spain were handed a glimmer of hope with a penalty after Marcelo clumsily challenged substitute Jesus Navas, but Ramos extinguished that optimism almost instantly with a wild spot-kick that flew wide.
And they were finished for good when Pique stuck out a leg in vain to bring down the onrushing Neymar, earning the Barcelona defender a straight red card as the last man.
It was party time inside the Maracana, with the irrepressible Neymar driving past defenders with ease, and substitute Jo coming close to a fourth with a powerful strike that was saved by Casillas.
Spain had a few chances to restore a little pride, but Pedro was denied excellently from close range by Cesar, who did equally well to push away a curling Villa effort with only minutes remaining.
But it just was not la Roja's night, with the final whistle signalling what had been an inevitability for some time as the Brazil celebrations kicked off in earnest.
The question now is whether the Selecao can ride this wave of momentum all the way onto the biggest stage of them all at World Cup 2014.

Kenya v Nigeria to be Streamed Live Online

Being a working day, most people might not make it to Kasarani and conveniently enough, the match is going to be streamed live online on airFi.com. So you can now keep calm in your office desk and wait for the kick-off...while hoping against hope that Zuku, JTL or whoever your ISP is doesn't F*bleep** things up.
CAPITAL SPORT: The Super Eagles go into the fourth round of matches level on five points and goal difference in Group F with Malawi, but the Nigerians top the table because they have scored more.
Namibia, away to Malawi in a match that kicks off 30 minutes earlier, have three points and Kenya two in a mini-league where goals have been a scarce commodity.
Only seven have been scored in six matches, with Nigeria averaging just one a game when edging Namibia and being held by Malawi and Kenya.
A home win over the Namibian “Brave Warriors” and an away draw with the Malawian “Flames” were satisfactory results but the home draw with the Kenyan “Harambee Stars” was not.
And the outcome could have been even worse for the Africa Cup of Nations title holders as Nnamdi Oduamadi equalised deep in stoppage time to salvage a point.

Now a Kenyan side coached by Belgian Adel Amrouche have home advantage and are raring to have another crack at a country they have never conquered in the Kenyan capital.

Meanwhile if you missed the first leg in Calabar, here's a full length video of the match:
